I regularly get questions along the lines - " I have a ( insert popular engine ) XYZRR, what ECU should I use on it. Needs to be good for 700 whp. "
While I cannot guess what the horsepower will be I can start the journey on the ECU decision.
----------------------------------
When choosing an ECU you really need to make sure a the ECU will do every thing you want it to do, and maybe have some room for future modifications.
So make a list of all the channels your engine currently has like the number of coils, sensors, and other features like drive by wire. Then maybe add the nice to have features you may be able to afford in the future.
Once you have a clear idea of what you have, and where you would like to go in the future, have a look at a table like ECUMasters comparison table and see where your project fits.
If you don't understand some of the fine detail, now is the time to do some research and ask some questions.
Critical things to look out for :
lambda controllers - are they built in or require and additional add ons ?
CAN bus. How many and what speed. You may have a dash to connect or want one in the future. GPS by CAN, or EGTs. Some devices have a fixed speed so having more than one bus may be useful. Put the fixed speed device on one bus freeing up another bus for faster devices.
memory - how much ? - both Gigabytes and dollars.
upgrades - to make this thing work, do you have to buy upgrades ?
